Do you want to know how to grow an online store? You are most definitely in the right place! 

Here’s why: Dave Lindenbaum jumped on the How to Sell Online podcast with me not to talk about one of his great product-based businesses, but to discuss how he’s helping others to grow their online stores. 

A Little Background

Dave has been on the How to Sell Online podcast before and shared how he created an amazing kombucha company (he was literally known as Dave Kombucha!)  as well as a company that sold really cool art kits for kids. His message was revolved around your passion being able to be expressed through your business. And he CRUSHED it. He even built a manufacturing center and fulfillment center surrounding his customers. 

Where Dave Lindenbaum is Today. 

Dave has since sold both companies (go Dave! That’s awesome!) He and his family moved to Tel Aviv Israel, and he and his wife welcomed another baby to the fold. Even with all of that happening, he learned super fast that retirement was not for him. He had to find something else to do. And it was important for him to put his natural talents to work. 

By keeping his eyes open and looking for opportunities, he met someone who is an acupuncturist and herbalist. She’d carried his products in her clinic, and she was interested in selling more products to grow an online store. Initially, that means she sold about $2000 a month. 

As you’ll hear Dave share, with coaching and his “ninja marketing” efforts, she was able to grow her business from $2000 a month to nearly $1 million. Six months later, the amount was tripled. 

How’d Dave Grow an Online Shop That Fast? 

First, he used a funnel method, which he describes as a hyper-focused sales process. He made sure that they had a process to measure sales and growth, but mentioned that other metrics could be shown by using social media.  You just have to decide HOW and WHEN to monitor it. 

When you listen to this podcast episode, you’ll also hear how important understanding your audience is. That doesn’t just mean basic demographics like age and location, but a deeper dig into what they ‘re looking, what groups they’re in, how do they really feel about their experience? Do they have a husband, have they been to your website before? The list goes on. 

That led him to develop a two-question survey. One is a quantitative question, and the other is qualitative. Dave explains it better than we do here, so you will definitely want to listen to how he segmented the responses and what he learned from them as a result. I promise—it’s practically a college level class in about 10 minutes. So, so good.

There are times when I think I could talk to Dave for HOURS, and this happened to be one of them. His level of experience and love of entrepreneurship is evident in everything he shares.

  1. Preparation leads to wealth.
  2. Get two deals out of one business.
  3. Boredom spurs creativity.
  4. Use a problem to bring customers into your world.
  5. Know your avatar at a granular level.
  6. Give post purchase surveys!
  7. Ask customers who purchased, “How do you rate your experience?”
  8. For customers that rate high – ask them “why do you want to (promise of your product)?”
  9. For customer that rate low – ask them “What could we have done better?”
  10. Surveys show what you need to fix and how to advertise.
