Get to Know Allie Casazza
A little while ago (just after our first interview together), Allie moved across the country, from San Diego to Greenville, South Carolina. And that move brought a lot of changes to her family.
For years, Allie had homeschooled her children. After the move, she had to put them in school. This was her way of reorganizing her own life. She was renovating her new house, which was smaller than her old one, and that meant that the whole family was pretty squished in their new space. This was not something they were used to.
At the same time, Allie was working on organizing the tour for her newest book, and working in such a small space wasn’t effective. So, sending her children to school was the only way they could all work on what they needed to do without getting in each other’s way. Luckily for all of them, the children love this new change!
Declutter Like a Mother
Allie has been blogging about decluttering for almost a decade now, and five years ago, she turned her blog into a business. Today, she has published a book about it!
Allie enjoyed blogging and podcasting about her passion. However, she wanted to get her message out to more people in a bigger way. She partnered with HarperCollins, and as she says, it changed her whole world. She recently published her book, Declutter Like a Mother!
Her message has definitely reached a bigger audience, but what is Allie’s message exactly?
I asked her, and here is her answer:
“My message is all about working against the stereotypical idea of motherhood. You know what I’m talking about, the hot mess mom culture that really just subscribes to the idea that motherhood is hard and it's always going to be awful. It's always a mess, always a disaster. And there's really no way around it.”
As she says, this idea is overly perpetuated in our media. And even worse, the mothers who choose to take care of themselves and have it together and feel good about themselves are villainized, and that’s exactly what she’s fighting against.
Why? Simply because this idea limits women’s beliefs about what motherhood gets to be. As a result, a lot of young women are actively choosing to forgo having children because they’re scared of losing their identity to “simply being mothers”.
This is what Allie has decided to work against. But how? She answers this question and so many more as she talks about the power that can come with decluttering.
