Do you ever wonder how to stay motivated—especially as an online store owner?
(Psst! If you haven’t yet, you’re probably gonna!)
After all, having an online business can be a REALLY lonely journey whether you’re just starting out or have a bit more experience under your belt.
One of the things many new online business owners talk about, in fact, is how to keep their heads in the game.
How to stay excited without getting burned out.
And yeah, even feeling…a little guilty…about celebrating success with their friends or family the same way they can with other online store owners.
Bryan Bowman usually shares his experience and depth of knowledge about marketing apps and the ins and outs of Facebook ads. But when a guest scheduled to join a training session became ill, he was kind enough to pinch hit.
His message about how to stay motivated as an online store owner, was 100%, without a doubt, exactly what was needed that day.
Lemme explain why. There is nothing more fun than getting wildly geeked out with other ecommerce business owners about your online store or a product that you just released. They get you, and they get your excitement.
But when you try to do the same thing with friends who AREN’T in ecommerce? They look at you and they really WANT to be excited because they want you to be happy…but they kinda don’t get it.
Kind of like an app expert trying to explain why this perfect little nugget of code he or she wrote is so genius…to someone who owns and operates a super successful bakery. Both are awesome at what they do, but they speak a different language.
That’s why it can be so difficult to stay excited about and confident in your business—and motivated to take the next step.
His wisdom is so, so solid on this topic. And I kinda think that no matter what business you’re in, you can take a huge chunk of knowledge from it.
Here are a few key takeaways from our conversation:
- Self-image is like a governor in a car.
- One of the most important things you can do is celebrate your success.
- Only compare you with yourself—that’s it.
- When we learn more about ourselves, we can set up environments that make us more successful.
- Identify your motivation.
- It’s normal NOT to feel motivated. But what are you gonna do about it?
- Happiness should never be a GOAL. It should just BE.
- You’re always going to be judged. You choose what you’re comfortable with.
- Read (or listen) to learn more.
- You can find The Gap and the Gain by Dan Sullivan and Willpower Does Work by Dr. Benjamin Hardy in my Amazon shop. (I do earn a small affiliate commission on each sale.)
And one more thing. Once you’ve listened to the podcast, take a moment to do the exercise Bryan recommends. On one piece of paper, write the following heading:
I will know I’m successful when:
Then take several minutes and write down how you’ll know when you have achieved the success you might be seeking. (Example: When I have $XX in the bank.)
On a second paper (or on the back of the first), write THIS heading:
I know I’m BEING successful when:
Begin to write a list of these traits, which focus predominantly on the present. (Example: When I am reading industry articles 20 minutes a day.)
