Okay, my friend, let’s be completely honest: procrastination is kind of a big thing among entrepreneurs. It’s something that holds us back and can stop us from doing the thing we feel passionate about.

So let’s talk about how to overcome procrastination as you start your online business—or as your grow it. Because we CAN do it if we understand it.

Jill Stanton joined me during a live online training to walk us through it. Her own experiences have given her a powerful perspective on how to overcome procrastination by identifying the fear that accompanies it.

Trust me when I say that I—and pretty much everyone listening in—were scribbling notes like mad. Jill jumped right in and started sharing much-needed info when it comes to procrastination. In other words, she discusses why you’re not getting things done, and how to fix it.

First, she says, it’s important to identify the feeling behind or leading to the procrastination.

Maybe it’s a fear of failing.

A fear of not knowing the next step to take.

Even a fear of losing everything, including friends or family.

Next, we’ve gotta consider what is leading us to feel that way. For example, do you have a scarcity mindset because you grew up with limited resources? Or did someone do something hurtful to you in the past? Maybe you’ve even failed at something before? Jill shares her own experience that led her to delay creating her phenomenal business, Millionaire Girls Club—and it’s something I think a bunch of us relate to!

Finally, to overcome procrastination and move forward with your online business, you need to determine whether the thoughts and feelings you have are productive or not productive. If they’re productive, that means you can take action to deal with them. them. But those dang unproductive thoughts? We need to kick those (hard!) to the curb.

Jill delivers so much great information during our conversation. One of the biggest “aha!” moments for me focuses on why our comfort zone (aka what we’re most familiar with) isn’t helpful. It doesn’t get us moving.

Instead, we need to embrace stepping out into those places and do those things that we’re not familiar with. In fact, she says, we need to “make the unfamiliar, familiar.” Or in other words, we need to get used to being uncomfortable.

That idea hit home for me in a BIG way. I’ve often joked that I haven’t been in my comfort zone for more than 10 years. I don’t remember what it’s like to HAVE a comfort zone. Yes, it’s scary to constantly try new things, and I get this feeling in the pit of my stomach sometimes. But my friend, I wouldn’t have it any other way, and neither would Jill Stanton.

How about you? Are you ready to make not being in your comfort zone the norm? And are you ready to overcome procrastination and get things done?

Learn more by listening to this episode of the How to Sell Online podcast.

Here are ten (okay—eleven) of my takeaways. I just HAD to include that last one!

Top Takeaways

  1. Why can we talk ourselves out of something so quickly?
  2. If you can’t shake it, don’t let it go. Create it.
  3. Is it just so hard, or are you trying to make it hard: Do you subscribe to the story of struggle?
  4. Surrender what is aligned with you.
  5. Procrastination is rooted in fear. Identify the feeling and where you feel it. Put a label on it and identify the thought leading to that feeling. Ask yourself: is it a productive or unproductive thought?
  6. Make the unfamiliar familiar and make the familiar unfamiliar. (This one is so good! I feel that so much!)
  7. Use tools like the Superhuman app to help her upgrade your vibe to help you get different results.
  8. Business doesn’t get easier. You just get better.
  9. It’s not a destination, it’s a way of being. What action are you taking right now to get that vision of where you want to be.
  10. Go with the flow vs going against the current.
  11. How are you supposed to learn what’s right when you don’t take the time to learn what’s wrong?
