Are you looking for the magic formula of how to drive organic website traffic? Well…I’m not sure there is one. But I CAN tell you that Molly Keyser—my guest on the How to Sell Online podcast—has found a way to drive traffic organically in a way that works for her.
And she’s sharing it with you.
Molly has been an online creator since the days of MySpace and blogging about her world since 2014. She was also a photographer and grew her business to six figures. (Woohoo!!!)
But then a new opportunity presented itself: all of the people who’d been following her for her photography started asking about how she was so successful. That led to creating courses and delivering the kinds of materials they were asking for. And guess what? That led to even another business!
Driving organic website traffic with YouTube
You might love Facebook or Instagram or TikTok to drive organic web traffic (or just enjoy them as a user.) But for Molly, YouTube is the best option. She says it’s “like a blog, but with video”—which makes sense.
Here’s what I love about Molly‘s YouTube strategy: she focuses on that one platform, then repurposes the content she creates. She calls it her content machine, and it’s kinda genius. She works with a VA who helps her take clips from her fantastic videos and repost them as shorts, Instagram reels, and TikTok videos.
What else is great about Molly’s focus is that it not only drives organic traffic—YouTube PAYS her and other creators to post videos. You’ll definitely want to listen to her share the details, because how great is getting paid just for creating content AND being able to serve people with your product or service?
Grow your email list even bigger with collabs.
As I tell the folks I coach, a great email list is kinda like having your personal ATM, and Molly agrees. Having people sign up for emails is a priority in her organic marketing strategy—and when you listen to this episode you’ll hear us talking about it a lot. One of the things she’s being doing a lot of lately are email swaps, or collaborations.
Collabs let both you and another business expand your reach and grow your list. It’s about finding another business owner who has similar goals and whose email list includes the people who can benefit from what you have to offer. By having your collaboration partner share information about you, it instantly creates a level of trust. Think of it as having a friend tell you about a store or restaurant they really like. You’re more likely to take their referral vs. one from a total stranger. That’s why these kinds of email swaps are such a great tool you can use to drive organic website traffic.
Apps, apps, and more apps.
Molly Keyser is incredibly generous with what she shares in our interview. That includes the apps and techniques she’s using now to help streamline some of her work.
She not only covers ChatGPT, which is an app I also use to generate ideas, but also a few more I think sound worth exploring. They include MidJourney, which creates create thumbnails, as well as an app called Elai.io, which takes AI video to a different level. Seriously—they’re pretty cool.
Top Takeaways
We all need to drive organic website traffic to our sites more—and Molly is an example of someone who’s doing it in such a great way. Here are some of my takeaways from our podcast interview:
- Collaborations grow lists fast.
- YouTube is a long-term play. 100K subscribers = $60k/year?!
- Content machine: 1 YT video a week, VA to break it down into places to post it, use VIdPros
- You have permission to start with 1-2 social platforms.
- Your email list is the lifeblood of your business.
- Fighting the IOS update? Go back to the old things that still work today.
- Email swaps—do this every 1-2 months.
- Instagram’s harder to grow, but there are things that work (like collabs.)
- Collaborate on YouTube. Go serve and solve someone’s problem.
- Tru these apps: ChatGPT, MidJourney (logos, thumbnails), and Elai.io
