A Little Bit About Me and My First Steps
My story is similar to so many others. Maybe you're even on the same journey.
As many of you know, I wasn’t always a business owner. In fact, I started my journey like everyone else. I went to college because I was told that was the way to financial security. I did what everyone else said to do: I got a degree, and then I got a job.
After college, I started teaching junior high math and science. I really liked it. I enjoyed being with the students and teaching them new things each day. It was a lot of fun.
Then, I was handed my first paycheck. I was told by the school that I qualified for government assistance. This was such a slap to the face for me. Government assistance and financial security don’t exactly go hand in hand.
So, I took the first step. I made the decision that I wasn’t going to get government assistance. No way! Instead, I found a way to make some extra money. I started a tutoring business on the side. This side business ignited the fire in me and got me thinking about how I could create my own money.
The Decision That Changed Everything
A couple of months down the road, I decided that I didn’t really want to work two jobs. I was already overwhelmed. I had just had my first baby and I was working full-time. This busy lifestyle was starting to take its toll on me.
I woke up one day and all I could think was that this wasn’t the life that I had chosen for myself.
Fast forward a few years. I had four children, my husband was working full-time as a physical therapist and we were still living paycheck to paycheck. We could afford to put food on the table, but we couldn’t afford to put food on other peoples' tables when we had a sick neighbor or if a loved one needed help.
We simply didn’t have any wiggle room in our finances and I wanted to change that. This is when I decided to start my first business.
