Are you feeling overwhelmed a bit by the idea of choosing products to sell online? Or do you have a product idea, but you don’t think it’s good enough?
Well—you aren’t alone. In fact, there are a lot of people who are standing in your same shoes. How do I know? Because I get thousands of emails and DMS flooding my inboxes asking those same kinds of questions.
That’s why I just released an episode for the How to Sell Online podcast that covers 5 of the most common questions that I get asked when it comes to starting an online business. In this episode I also happen to share some crazy products that are out there too.
Okay, I’m just gonna tell you.
One of the items that someone has found to sell (or maybe they created it, I don’t know for sure) is a calendar of dogs…um…”doing their business.” And they’ve sold over 60,000 of them!!!!!
I have to believe it’s a gag gift—because the idea makes me gag a little. But it’s also genius when it comes to products to sell online. Some amazing entrepreneur saw a chance to make people laugh or to make somebody at a white elephant party an absolute gift-finding hero while building a profitable business. So while I might not choose that calendar to hang in my kitchen, I think it just goes to show that you can virtually sell any product online.
So my answer for the person overwhelmed by the idea of choosing products to sell online, I’d say this: online selling success starts with knowing who your customer is. Then you need to find and show them products that serve them or solve their problems.
Your customer might be someone who always wants to give their friends humorous and unique gifts. (Like a crazy dog calendar.) But if your customer is a cat person who loves to craft, a cross-stitch kit of kittens would be more to their liking. Or if your customer is a busy parent who just wants to be the star of their kiddo’s bake sale—brightly patterned cupcake liners are going to be a far better fit. (It’s how I sold tens of thousands of them!)
And to the person who has a product idea but thinks it’s not good enough? Well, someone created that oh-so-profitable calendar, right?!
Listen to the episode to also find out answers to questions like:
- Where’s the right place for small businesses to get packaging?
- Selling online seems amazing, but isn’t it hard?
- How much time should you block into your schedule to run your e-commerce business?
If you have questions about selling online, from products to fulfillment to when and how to hire—I’d love to help. You can find the contact information for my team and me right here on the website, or follow me on Facebook or Instagram.
