Things to Do and Not Do for Cyber Weekend Holiday Sales
In this video, I'm going into the things to do for Cyber Weekend holiday sales and the things not to do on Cyber Weekend.
Cyber weekend is about to start. Remember when we were growing up, and the only sale we really had was Black Friday? There are now actually six things that we celebrate in that little tiny time period. Number one, we start on Thanksgiving night now, 7 PM on Thanksgiving night. Then we've got Black Friday on Friday. On Saturday, it's Small Business day. Small businesses are being promoted left and right! On Sunday, I have found that religious products will knock it out of the park. Then on Monday, we have Cyber Monday. Finally, on the second Monday of the month is something called Green Monday, which I didn't know about that until last year.
That's six things, six things that can absolutely overwhelm us and bog us down. It can feel so overwhelming. I'm going to give you some amazing tips and my secrets that have just crushed it in the years before. I'm actually just going to give you three in this video because I created PDF so you can go through and make a checklist.
#1 Get Organized for Cyber Weekend Holiday Sales Early
Number one, you've got to get organized. Don't just wait until Thanksgiving and then panic, wondering what you are going to sell for your Cyber Weekend holiday sales. This will make you start pulling your hair out. And your family won't like you, your employees, or your contractors–they're not going to like you. How do I know that? Because I did that the first year I started Pick Your Plum, I was not prepared. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving, I realized I had nothing ready for Black Friday! I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off, we about missed Thanksgiving, and it was just mass chaos. Get your planning done now if you haven't already.
#2 Two Additional Holiday Sales You May Not Know About
The second thing, there are actually two more secret holiday sales in this time period. We actually just did one last week, October 20th, and we did over $3,300 in sales. It was with a little tiny list, and I'm going to show you how we did that.
We sent out an email advertising a 48-hour sale to get in on a 2-for-$24 deal. It was only 48 hours, so it ended pretty quickly. This was our pre-Black Friday sale.
The other one that I want to tell you about is the last-chance email promotion. Send out an email blast “Last chance to get it guaranteed by Christmas.” Those two alone, the pre-Black Friday and the get-it-before-Christmas last chance have been some of our biggest days, if not our biggest days EVER in the majority of my companies. Don't miss out on that pre- and the post-sale, they're seriously awesome.
#3 Creating Urgency is Key
Number three, create urgency. Don't have a sale that goes on for days and days. People are going to get absolutely distracted. It's the holidays right? Life is crazy as it is, so you've got to help people make that decision fast, move on and get out of there. What I've found is that 48-hour sales do so much better than 72-hours, 96-hours, or week-long specials. My secret to creating that urgency in that email for my highest converting sale is a 48-hour sale.
Things Not to Do for Cyber Weekend Holiday Sales
Number one, do not do every single promotion. You will absolutely burn out, and so will your customers. Just choose two to three and make those a slam dunk. Remember you're still doing the pre-Black Friday sale, and you're going to be doing the last-chance one, too.
The second thing not to do is don't oversell your product. You've got a product that's selling really well, and you are thinking you can just order more stock on Monday. If you call Monday to get more product in, guess what? Other people are doing that too, and chances are high you won't be able to get that new stock.
You're going to leave your customers very, very frustrated. You're going to get frustrated, products aren't going to get shipped in time, and you're going to lose a lot of money. Especially if you guarantee by Christmas, you're going to lose a lot of money because the products won't be able to get to you for you to ship them out on time. Only sell what you have available because you do want to make sure your customers are happy. It's Christmas time, they don't want to be emailing you saying, “Where's my stuff?!” on Christmas Eve. Nor do you want to be answering those emails. How do I know? I've done it. That's why I'm telling you guys don't do it. I've done it for a long time, and I know what works and what doesn't work.
