Volunteer in Thailand
This summer, our family went on a volunteer trip to Thailand, and I decided to wait until now to put this video together to remind me of what life is about during this crazed, rushed time.
You live an experience, but when it's put into a video, you get to relive the moments over and over again, and it's so full of emotion it almost overwhelms me.
Learning from Our Volunteer Trip to Thailand
I interviewed my kids on what they thought about volunteering in this school, and I'll let you watch to hear what they said. I think the biggest thing for me was that we thought we were going to teach these kids. But we left knowing they were the ones who taught us. It was more than we could have ever asked for.
I have found my kids over the last few months wanting less and being more appreciative. Will it last? I don't know. I hope so. Maybe…I'll make them watch this video as a reminder on a monthly basis. Makayla and Bridges have wanted to just ‘hang out' with us as a family more vs. going out with friends. Um…they are teens, and they still like hanging out with us! Whaaa!?! I'll take that as a win.
Now, this all sounds pretty and beautiful, but I'll tell you there was the jet lag, the bug bites, the sour stomachs, the bucket shower, and the beds on the floor…
BUT…I'd do this volunteer trip to Thailand again in a heartbeat because of what we learned and where we are now as a family. I'd just remember to take anti-itch cream and a heck of a lot more bug spray…oh and a big fat stash of candy to hand out to the kids!
Our Kids' Perspective on Volunteering in Thailand
How do we afford to take a volunteer trip to Thailand with 6 humans? Flying them to the other side of the world? Taking off weeks of work? Paying for the concrete we helped pour at the school? The camera to film the video?
The answer: We have started our own businesses. Businesses change lives. How do we know? Because it's changed ours.
We used to live in the paycheck-to-paycheck world. I was a teacher… and I loved it. But in the same breath, I can say that getting my first check and hearing that I qualified for food stamps was a slap in my face. Things had to change. I wanted more out of life than a small check and fell into this ecommerce world.
Ecommerce (aka selling products online) has changed our financial lives to allow us to have the freedom to travel and experience another world. Jared and I decided that we wanted to teach our kids about business too. We wanted them to have the freedom to be who they want to be in this life without the pressure of money deciding who they will or won't be.
So…We decided to give them the opportunity to build a business. Long story short…at 10 and 13 years old, these two squirts sold over 21,000 scarves in 9 months. I've had numerous people ask me if I would teach them too…so I did, and they hit that 6 figure mark too. Being a teacher, I thought if I could do it, teach my girls could do it, and then teach a handful of others to do it too…then I knew it was time for me to teach this even more.
So I started this last March and have been teaching many people how to do this same thing. The results are mindboggling. People are starting from zero and growing brands and building cash they never dreamed possible. It comes down to 3 main things to make this happen and I want to share with you! I break it down into 3 secrets that helped them get to this magical 6 figure number. I teach it here: 0-$100k Masterclass
Get over there and make your 2018 the year to live your dreams…and have the funds to support them!
