“I want to quit!!!”
Yes, I’ve said it. I’ve said it a lot in the last 10 years. Heck—I think I may have said it at least once in the last week! Because sometimes, giving up would just feel so dang good when I’ve been struggling to overcome some sort of obstacle and things just refuse to get out of my way.
Or when technology refuses to do what I want it to do.
Or when I’m trying to learn something new and it’s JUST. NOT. CLICKING.
…sigh…
But you know what I’ve found?
A lot of the time when I want to quit it’s because I’m comparing where I am in my business to where someone else is in theirs. And sometimes it’s because I’m wanting something to go much faster than (deep down inside) I know it should.
Building a business has its ups and downs. It just does. There are going to be disappointments and there are going to be times that you’re just going to want to toss your computer right out the nearest window.
DON’T GIVE UP.
Don’t quit.
Let yourself realize that building anything worthwhile takes learning and it takes time.
Recognize that looking at where someone else is in their business doesn’t matter.
The only thing that matters is that you’re moving forward and that you’re doing your best.
Remember when you learned to swim?
I don’t know for sure, but I’m guessing that you didn’t just jump into the deep end and get ready to go head-to-head with Michael Phelps.
Nope—you probably started like almost every other kid there, putting your face in the water and blowing bubbles.
And then maybe your teacher had you hold on to the edge of the pool and kick your feet so hard that water sprayed everywhere!
Oh…and then you got to hold on to your swim teacher’s hands as they moved you around the pool.
Your only setback might have been when they tried to teach you to float, and they’d tell you to arch your back, and you were pretty dang sure you might fall right to the bottom of the pool…but you didn’t.
At the end of the summer, you were paddling across the pool as though you’d been doing it your whole life.
Why? Because you didn’t give up. You didn’t quit.
You just took it one thing at a time.
I know where you are because I’ve been there too. We all have those moments where we want to quit, but those are the moments to dig deep and not give up!
